Bug Description
Enabling Synapse, and triggering the keyboard shortcut Synapse would crash... I got the app crashed dialog and submitted it, but did not take it to copy it.
I solved the problem by first
`$ echo $GTK_IM_MODULE` with the result of `xim`
I then ran: ` $ im-config` as my user and it created ~/.xinputrc
inside the ~/.xinputrc I added `export $GTK_IM_MODULE=''` to the file

What version of Ubuntu MATE? Because 16.04 will look for $GTK_IM_
