Bug Description

Getting this with BleachBit 1.11 when cleaning Windows Explorer - Thumbnails:

[Errno 2] No such file or directory: u'\\\\?\\C:\\Users\\Alex\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Explorer\\thumbcache_32.db': Command to delete C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\thumbcache_32.db

[Errno 2] No such file or directory: u'\\\\?\\C:\\Users\\Alex\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Explorer\\thumbcache_idx.db': Command to delete C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\thumbcache_idx.db

Changed in bleachbit:
milestone: none → 1.12
importance: Undecided → Medium

I tried this with Windows 10 with BleachBit 1.11. The first time it ran OK, and later I saw the error.

I will do more testing.

Tested BleachBit 1.11.2 and this issue is still happening.

I saw this also on Windows 7. The first time the delete operation reports a success like

Delete 24B C:\Users\foo\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\thumbcache_1024.db

The second time it sees the file but reports an error like

[Errno 2] No such file or directory: u'\\\\?\\C:\\Users\\foo\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Explorer\\thumbcache_1024.db': Command to delete C:\Users\foo\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Window\Explorer\thumbcache_1024.db

Now the Windows DIR command shows thumbcache_1024.db, but the DEL command reports "Access is denied."

So these are not normal files

Any better?

No. Now it is killing my explorer.exe process, forcing me to have to relaunch it manually.

If you want to, you can just revert the changes and release 1.12 as is and just put in the known issue that this error happens after running cleaner 2 or more times in a row, unless it is a simple fix?

I am setting to 1.12 because it was fixed in 1.12, right?

Yes sorry. It was strange. Yesterday I installed a fresh copy of Windows. Today I ran BleachBit and this error happened. It happened repeatedly after I ran the cleaner a few times, so then I figured I would run BleachBit.console and post the log here, however, after I ran BleachBit.console, the issue suddenly stopped and I wasn't able to reproduce it anymore.

Sorry for changing the milestones.
