Bug Description

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

I've installed a Windows XP virtual machine through VirtualBox and I've noticed that, although that option is present in every VirtualBox document and manual, it isn't present in Ubuntu's version. That means that any virtual machine ran by ubuntu's virtualbox cannot access any USB peripheral, which frankly is not a good thing at all.

USB is not yet supported in the Open Source Edition (OSE). See http://virtualbox.org/wiki/Editions.

If you want to use the "regular" version from virtualbox.org, you'll have to uncomment a hack in /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh. See http://virtualbox.org/wiki/User_FAQ.

I'm closing this bug as Invalid.

Changed in virtualbox-ose:
status: New → Invalid

I see. But how come Ubuntu removed support for USB connections? What was the rationale behind that decision?
