no way of preserving the boot partition

Bug Description

This is not as much of a bug report, as a feature request.
However, the severity of that limitation is critical.
I am trying to use MaaS on a server that has a custom boot
partition, that has the custom HWE kernel, not supported
by ubuntu.
MaaS is instead trying to install the ubuntu kernel (which
fails on update_initramfs/flash_kernel, but I can easily block
that attempt), and also it removes the boot partition (which
I haven't found any way to block).
As a result, the whole system is unbootable.
