Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

While living with the more or less stable propitary ATI-driver fglrx I'm experiencing some crashes a week (unreliable notebook suspend). While using XFS I get both files filled with zeroes after OS restart sometimes. This is a XFS typical effect on data loss caused by full system crash. Everytime it happens I have to go through pidgin's first start assistant ("Welcome to Pidgin").
My question is: Are those files kept open all the time, that they got killed on such a sudden crash? There are typically no continuous changes like on logfiles or the like to the accounts or buddies, so maybe a file close after writing the changed data could make this more reliable.

I'm not into source code, so sorry if the last point is missing the facts.

Maybe a regular backup copy (like done to the firefox bookmarks) could help.

Pidgin 2.2.1 on Gutsy, but reproducable to several previous versions (including gaim).

---

I know that the origin problem is to solve (fglrx/notebook), but there is no solution in sight.

Is this (linux) symptom reproducible in 8.10?
