Bug Description

Killer 1525 wireless card doesn't work on Ubuntu Mate with stock drivers. It sometimes can detect networks, but cannot connect to WPA protected WIFI.
"dmesg | grep ath" shows several thousand of lines "failed to start hw scan: -108". Problem can be fixed by following the steps outlined here:
http://www.killernetworking.com/support/knowledge-base/17-linux/20-killer-wireless-ac-in-linux-ubuntu-debian

Please include correct board.bin and firmware-?.bin files to Ubuntu Mate 16.04 distro.

In my case wifi worked after I deleted board.bin and firmware-4.bin both /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw2.1/ and /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/ then copied firmware-5.bin_SW_RM.1.1.1-00157-QCARMSWPZ-1 as firmware-4.bin and firmware-4.bin. Finally, I saved resulting board.bin, firmware-4.bin and firmware-5.bin to both ..../2.1/ and ..../3.0/ folders

I posted the description of the problem here:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/755389/changing-the-desktop-to-mate

Here is the output of dmesg | grep ath

pastebin.com/yqpn0YEr pastebin.com/u1k5pu7c pastebin.com/Yk34SX67 pastebin.com/Gk6n4C14

I can run "apport-collect 1568635" on live DVD tonight (wifi doesn't work on it, so, hopefully it helps).

Sorry, it s all broken:

apport-collect 1568635
You need to run 'sudo apt-get install python-apport' for apport-collect to work.

sudo apt-get install python-apport --fix-missing

After this operation, 4,140 kB of additional disk space will be used.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.6 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Ubuntu Mate 15.10 and earlier versions didn't recognize Killer wireless at all. Ubuntu Mate recognizes Killer wireless (as in can see the networks). This is definitely progress. However, it still cannot connect to WPA/WPA2 protected networks.

I would gladly test the newest kernel, but how can I do it? I have the newest Ubuntu Mate live DVD, have a cable connection to internet and I see the link to deb files. What should I do to test the kernel? Would be great if you can comment here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/758811/testing-the-newest-kernel-without-rebooting

Please consider elevating the importance to High. Live CD with Internet incapable distro is a pain on the neck for experienced users and an immediate dealer breaker for newcomers.

Cheers,
