gedit freezes up entire OS

Recently, gedit has completely frozen up Ubuntu 14.04.

The problem is random and not reproducible.

This has happened 2x in about 1 week.

Most recent trigger was clicking on X to close the gedit window. The previous trigger was clicking on a line for text editing.

Only solution is to hold power button until system shuts down. Then restart to continue using the PC.

This freezing OS problem is happening with other apps as well.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If this is still an issue using a maintained version of Ubuntu then please let us know otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.
