Bug Description

This is a kernel-oops report, that somehow was not automatically generated by apport when it occurred; it occurred during the previous session. However, I did capture the following before rebooting, according to the directions given at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelOops#Submitting_a_Kernel_Oops_Bug_Report:

dmesg.log,
lspci-vvnn.log,
uname-a.log,
version.log

This event occurred upon insertion of my xD smartcard medium into my Olympus MAUSB-10 reader/writer.

However, since launchpad apparently only allows one file to be submitted, I am submitting only the first of the four files. Should anyone on your team requires the other three, s/he may request them by email.

OK. I guess I will add the lspci-vvnn.log here. Please disregard the above paragraph:

And I forgot to mention the fact that there is nothing wrong with the xD smartcard medium which I inserted. This very same medium was recently read in Windows XP without any problems. However, its partition table appears to be unreadable within this particular Linux distribution for some reason. In addition, years ago, this same device was functioning perfectly out-of-the-box within openSUSE 10.2 (i.e., when hal played a role); the card's partition was even automounted, and its contents were displayed automatically within a konqueror window. Unfortunately, since then, it hadn't worked at all within any newer version of Linux that was tested; in some distributions, inserting the medium even caused the system to crash.

I hope this helps.
