Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

In Feisty, the "ATI Technologies Inc Radeon IGP 330M" card worked fine with the free ATI driver, including Beryl. However, in Gutsy, the ATI driver is selected to be used, and displays, but the screen shakes back and forth horizontally violently, with a vertical shaking black bar about an inch or so from the right side. It is impossible to read anything on the screen, but otherwise everything displays. The free Radeon driver displays similarly. The vesa driver works, but obviously without any acceleration.

01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon IGP 330M/340M/350M (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 002a
Flags: bus master, stepping, fast Back2Back, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 66, IRQ 255
        Memory at d8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
        I/O ports at 9000 [size=256]
        Memory at d0300000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at d0320000 [disabled] [size=128K]

I confirm this behavior on "ATI Technologies Inc Radeon IGP 345M", feisty worked correctly but gutsy not (shakes pixel left to right).
I'll produce as soon as possible the xorg.conf file in a new commentattachment.

I have had the same issue, adding Option "LVDSBiosNativeMode" "false" to the Device section of xorg.conf, solved the problem for me.

Can you please try again with a newer -ati driver from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge and see if that works without any options?

Yes, using: the xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.7.195+git20071020tv_i386.deb driver removes the need for the Option override.
