Bug Description

When loading wave and raw files in Wavesurfer (and also in Transcriber) the sound is is bad (cracky). Also, in wavesurfer, the cursor is not synchronized with the sound (i.e., the sound stops but the cursor is still in the middle of the waveform).

I am using the versions distributed in Gutsy; everything was working fine in Feisty (and all the previous versions).

Hi!

I have the same too. I mailed the trascriber list about it in december, not receiving any response. However, using the binary from the transcriber website instead works well, so it seems it is something to do with the gutsy package.

I am worried about the silence on this issue and on the trans-devel list. Is there noone working on Transcriber anymore?

Hi,

As both programs use libsnack2 the problem is probably in the snack
library.

Thanks,

I have Gutsy 7.10 with full updates as of today (Apr 22). I also found that transcriber and wavesurfer have choppy playback.

I downloaded the source for snack directly from

http://www.speech.kth.se/snack/download.html

and extracted the files into

/home/<user>/download/snack2.2.10

inside the snack2.2.10/unix directory, I ran the following commands in terminal:

./configure --with-tk=/usr/lib/tk8.4 --with-tcl=/usr/lib/tcl8.4 --with-alsa

make

sudo make install

Then I did the following
1. First back up the old libsnack.so files
cd /usr/lib/snack2.2
sudo mkdir bak
sudo cp * bak

2. Then copy the new libs (which the make install put into /lib/snack2.2
cd /lib/snack2.2
sudo cp * /usr/lib/snack2.2/

The crackly audio and the delayed cursor problem are now both fixed for me.
Best of luck!
Damon
