Bug Description

Hi,
actually it is known bug - i have googled a bit for possible solution - at the moment i could not find anything which helps. It looks like because of the buggy BIOS (1.20) kernel does not recongnize a touchpad after suspending the ram and does not create a corresponding input class.

People suggesting to force Siemens to fix a BIOS - most probably the worst idea, because they don`t support LINUX on that laptop. I found here similar issues with FSC Si 1520 which has the same BIOS, considered to be a "Wishlist" priority. I understand that there are much more important things to do for the team but anyway... I wanted to investigate myself is it possible to force a kernel to initialize this crappy touchpad, because for me that is the most annoying issue forcing me to use XP on the road :)

Any suggestion will be useful, thanks for your help, Mikhail

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that this is an older issue; is it still happening in the latest release 8.04 Hardy? If so, set the bug status to 'new' and leave a comment to signify that it is ready for triage / review. Otherwise if the issue has been fixed, please set the status to 'invalid'.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Please update and test with the final Jaunty 9.04 release - http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Assuming the issue remains please run the following from a terminal:

apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 155301

For more info refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies . I'm also closing the upstream acpi-support bug watch for now as there doesn't seem to be an upstream bug open for this report to link to. Thanks.

Hi mvm,

Since you are the original bug reporter, care to test and confirm if this issue remains with the latest Karmic 9.10 Alpha development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . You should be able to test suspend using a LiveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

I can confirm that this is still a problem with Karmic Beta. BIOS version is 1.20.

Downgrading the BIOS to 1.10 seems to solve the problem. Upgrading the BIOS was really simple (didn't require Windows). Just download the file labelled "BIOS Flash (ISO CD-Image)" and burn it to a CD. Boot the CD with your laptop and type 'flash' at the command prompt.
