Bug Description

Hi Tim,

Text is getting corrupted in 4.4.0-9. I see changes have been made to the i915 driver. Booting on ABI 8 fixes the corruption.

This is very similar to what I saw: http://askubuntu.com/questions/584922/how-do-i-fix-fonts-not-rendering-and-missing-letters

I would deem this release critical, if reproducible. I'm on Lenovo x201.

Cheers,
Nafallo

Nafallo - the big display change for 4.4.0-9 was 'UBUNTU: SAUCE: i915_bpo: Provide a backport driver for SKL, KBL & BXT graphics'. You'll need to provide at least the output of lspci in order for me to tell if you've got one of those displays. Can you boot to a functional kernel and run

apport-collect 1552750

 Hi Tim,

Information added, but I've yet to be able to reproduce this bug again. Colour me confused.

I still see this on Intel 14.04 machine with 4.4.0-64-generic #85~14.04.1-Ubuntu. It happens in fairly random way quite often after close and open of the laptop.

Images may either not display: http://askubuntu.com/questions/850754/what-happened-to-my-dash-icons

or show up with garbling as in attached screenshot.

It may or may not be only the outer fullscreen restore button, as it always is at the moment. It showed in the upper right icon for awhile, it's like something is putting random junk in some random image memory location?
