Ubuntu 7.10 can't display splashboot into Thinkpad T42

Bug Description

After a successful installation into a IBM thinkpad T42, I reboot the system, choose normal boot into grub, but the system dive into a black screen without the tradicional splash logo. After some seconds (the time to boot, I think) the GDM logon screen comes to authentication. After logon, everything is fine.

I tried to find out what's happening by type Ctrl+Alt+F[1..6] and thus I can read output into tty1(F1). I reproduce below:

My partitions layout is:
/dev/sda1 windows
/dev/sda2 linux boot
/dev/sda3 linux swap (!!)
/dev/sda4 extend
/dev/sda1 linux /
/dev/sda1 linux /home
