gnome-appearance-properties does not work properly on gutsy amd64

The gnome-appearance-properties dialog is unresponsive on my Ubuntu 7.10 x86_64 install, where its widgets widgets don't render properly either. When I, for example, click on the 'Background' tab[1] the window's contents apparently don't change, but its controls respond to clicks, and when I try to change my desktop background[2] the dialog looks just... wrong. This happens both with Compiz and Metacity. Also, I'm using the nvidia driver if it helps to know.

I can still change my settings via gconf-editor.

I am seeing the same behavior. (ubuntu 7.10, x86_64). Doesn't matter what window manager I used (metacity, compiz, emerald). This is the info from my terminal:

Do you still get the issue if you uninstall it?

Uninstalling that package (along with gtk2-engines-gtk-qt, which depends on it) got rid of the problem. There is a slight delay when the app starts, though, but the thing works.

Trash disappears after a change of gnome theme and after logout and login ...

Metacity don't be refresh after a change of gnome theme is theme engine allow to change color of windows border.

I use pixmap engine and or aurora engine ... Trash reappears after defaut theme is loaded and after reboot.
