Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I installed a new gutsy, Adept said I have 1 Upgradeable update, I did an update, then after a success "TZDATA" update, it said: "Version upgrade is avaliable". I clicked on Version Upgrade, (Gutsy to Gutsy... o.O?) then it downloaded few updates and said" Your version is up-to-date" ...then two buttons: "Report bug", "Close"...That's all. MINOR BUG...

The head of this report says it is marked as a "duplicate of bug #153889", but I beg to differ.

The problem that I'm having is that I downloaded the Gutsy/7.10 release ISO image, burned a CD, and then did a fresh install (no errors). My first boot of the system showed that there was an update to the "tzdata" package. After that was installed, Adept Manager reported that a new version was available.

When I have it try the upgrade, it continues until the "Modifying the software channels" where it works to 99%, then pops up an error screen stating "Your system is up-to-date" and "There are no upgrades available for your system. The upgrade will now be canceled." and it has two buttons: Close and Report Bug.

It's not a major problem, but it caused me a bit of confusion thinking I had grabbed an older 7.04 ISO.

@Dan: right the same thing that's just happened to me...

The only addition I can make is that after booting and logging for the first time into the newly installed distro, the application 'Kdesktop' started sucking all system memory up to 90%, until the desktop got nearly frozen.
Then a dialog opened reporting Kdesktop crash, and I got full control back.
Obviously I'm not claiming the two things may be related.

I did a fresh install of Kubuntu 7.10 from downloaded CD-iso two days ago. After some upgrades, adept offered a version upgrade both yesterday and today.

I can confirm this bug too.
Not a threat to system stability so far as I can see, but quite annoying.

This is NOT a dupe of Bug #153889. Not even close. I did a fresh install of Kubutnu 7.10 (amd64) from the downloadable DVD image. No problems, except I'm now getting the error described in this bug.

If you update the adept package, this error is no longer there. I have a fresh install of Kubuntu Gutsy, and once I updated, I don't receive this error any more.
