Bug Description
Related to bug 35364, but maybe not entirely the same. I just installed Gutsy on a MacBook which didn't have internet access at the time. Since it could not verify any of the repositories, it commented them all out, even though I'd hook it up to the internet after installation. The result is that updates or installations are impossible, as there are no repositories to grab them from.
I guess you could call this a request to change behavior rather than a bug. The rationale is that a typical user would not know why his updates keep failing, as he doesn't realize he can simply uncomment the repositories. It would be better to just keep the repositories active even if the installer can't seem to find them (or, at least in case the user seems to be on a loopback network).
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Can you please answer the following questions: sources. list to the bug report?
- which cd version did you use, Desktop or Alternative?
- did you get a message about failed check for security updates during the installation?
- can you please attach the file /etc/apt/
