Notifications area desklet, when set to reserve space, jumps stuff round the screen like crazy

Bug Description
Initially, it was the icons in the Notification desklet that jumped around. Then, when I got a Cairo window open to try to disable the 'reserve space' setting, that window started jumping around - hundreds of pixels up the screen, then back again and so on, like a yo-yo. Madness!
Linux Mint 17.3 x64 Cinnamon 2.8.
Cairo Dock 3.4.99.alpha1 with 3.4.99.alpha1.1 Cairo plugins. Perhaps this is not the most recent stable release - I am finding it hard to tell - sorry.
Intel integrated graphics. Xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8.1.
