Bug Description

Hello,

This installation is Ubuntu 7.10 i386 desktop.

I use the MPlayer-plugin to play some video streams in the Firefox browser.
The video plays OK, but when I press RIGHT-MOUSE-BUTTON on the video window to see and change the settings, the menu is hugely wide and the menu selections are not visible.

See the picture: http://www.futuredesktop.org/gutsy/Screenshot-mplayer-plugin-error1.jpg

I studied the URL and it shows this long, long line.
"http://www1.nrk.no/nett-tv/asx.aspx?paramlist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ip=1422564621&speed=1886&browser=Mozilla"

It would be nice if the Mplayer just cut the URL to max 60 characters instead of 300 characters. There is no point to show the long line because it destroys the menu.

Visit the following URL if you want to try it: http://www1.nrk.no/nett-tv/nyheter/spill

I have installed Mplayer and other plugins via the Automatix GUI.

Sorry,
I forgot to mension that this happens if the Compiz is active.
Eg. If I activate the "Extra" effects in the Preferences-> Appearance menu, then the Mplayer-plugin's right-mouse menu is not visible at all.

When I set the apperance effects to "None" then the menu is visible but it's extremely large, wide. So the error remains.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10?

I can reproduce this in 8.10 with desktop effects enabled, while it works without. The created context menu for the stream mentioned above is way too large for the screen because of the "save as..." entry. Additionally there's an obvious maximum size exceeded if the menu is big enough, maybe hardware/driver related, so the menu is not drawn correctly.

I experience this on a system with intel and on another with radeon or fglrx graphics driver.

Best solution would be to shorten the entry according to the screen size, I guess.
