Bug Description

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

I'm experiencing frequent problems with xchat not redrawing the display when the window is exposed. This seems to affect only the pane with discussion in it (the channel list is unaffected) and can be cleared by switching channel. It only seems to manifest when the window which was hidden was another xchat window (for example, the preferences dialog).

Thank you for your bug. Do you use the desktop effects option? What videocard and driver do you use?

I was using no desktop effects. Turning on normal desktop effects appears to make the issue go away as far as I can tell from limited testing - it's certainly much harder to reproduce if present.

I am using the i810 video driver with:

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
        Subsystem: Dell Unknown device 01d6
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0
        Memory at eff80000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2

not confirming, the i810 driver is used by many people and the non desktop effects case should not cause redraw issues, works fine for me and apparently for other users since we didn't get other bugs on the issue

Having done some more playing I find that I can also avoid the problem by setting the colours to something other than the system default. I'm also not sure that repeated flipping between accelerated and non-accelerated

I don't know if it's also worth pointing out that this system was originally installed with dapper and has been upgraded through to gutsy with very little use in the meantime (I only did the initial install and feisty upgrade on Monday).

Otherwise, what information would you find useful for reproduction?

The upgrade should not make a difference. Having steps to trigger the issue using a new installation would be useful. Do you get the issue using a new user on the same configuration?
