I upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy, I had a problem with nvidia-glx, but then this came up as well.

I also had Envy installed to get the new Nvidia drivers. Apparantly my VMware didn't work anymore, and the packages are not available in Gutsy (although I enabled multiverse).

I have added my own bug report and one other as dupes to this one. My now duped report includes my dist-upgrade logs, so go there for them if needed.

I got the same error on Xubuntu from 7.04 to 7.10.

The xubuntu-desktop was installed after an ordinary ubuntu instalation quite some time ago.

I have my logs attached to the bug report #154827 because this happened after that error installing cupsys, so I'm not going to attach them twice as they are exactly the same.

Here is what causes the problem:

dpkg - warning: downgrading nvidia-glx from 1:100.14.12 to 1:1.0.9639+2.6.22.4-14.9.

Ok, so it was my mistake then probably (having installed a newer Nvidia driver using Envy) ... :-)

I close this (old) bug on the grounds that old versions of envy used to cause this distruption, not a lot that update-manager can do.Thanks, Michael
