Mis-rendered "å" in DejaVu Sans

Binary package hint: ttf-dejavu

With DejaVu Sans 8, with "full" hinting active (using KDE terminology from the "Fonts" KControl applet), the Scandinavian letter 'å' is rendered incorrectly, with only the left half of the circle being rendered.

My screen resolution is reported by xdpyinfo as
screen #0:
  dimensions: 1400x1050 pixels (332x240 millimeters)
  resolution: 107x111 dots per inch

I've seen this too. Things were fine in Feisty, when I upgraded to Gutsy this bug appeared.

Thanks for flagging this issue. Is it still occurring with Hardy? If so, would you mind bringing it to upstream's attention?

I am not running Hardy, but other people confirm that the bug persists, and that moreover artifacts are showing at point sizes greater than 8/9 or so, which is not the case here on Gutsy (at least with full hinting). I will report to upstream.

This has been fixed in FreeType CVS now. I think this fix should be included in hardy-updates because the bug is visible in almost all programs for Swedish/Danish/Norwegian users. I have already tested the CVS version (which works fine for me) and I'm willing to test updated Ubuntu packages as well.

The relevant changes in FreeType CVS are in freetype2/src/truetype/ttgload.c, revisions 1.198, 1.200:

(the 1.200 patch is needed since it fixes a bug that 1.198 introduced)
