Bug Description

Whenever I try to load an OpenOffice 1.x file into OpenOffice 2 it crashes
immediately ("Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice crashed").

This happens with all types of OpenOffice 1.x file and I've tried a variety of
different files, all of which load fine in OpenOffice 1.x. Loading other files
such as MS Word or plain text works as expected.

I'm running a fresh install of Kubuntu Hoary. I never had this issue with my
previous Ubuntu installation, so maybe it's Kubuntu specific.

It's working fine here as well (Ubuntu 5.04). Can anyone else reproduce this on
Kubuntu?

Just installed OOo2 and, yes, I can reproduce on a up-to-date Kubuntu here as well. Tried 4 different
OOo1 documents. It's the same every time.

Btw, I noticed something odd in the Open File dialog. Three zero-sized files (no name) appear, but they
are nowhere to be found with a regular 'ls -la'. They are re-touched every time I reopen the Open File
dialog. Odd.

I'm not getting the file dialogue issues mentioned - maybe that's a filesystem
issue?

I've done a bit more testing and discovered that this bug also applies to
OpenOffice2 files. As it cannot even open files it has created in it's native
format, I've updated the severity of this bug to critical.

I attach a file I've just created in OpenOffice 1.x which causes the above
behaviour when I try to open it with Kubuntu's OpenOffice 2.

Dropping to major, since apparently it is not broken for others

OOo1 doc that crashes OOo2

Couldn't find any non-private docs, so I made this one which is completely
empty, except for an inserted pic. Crashes OOo2 here every time.

Have you (or anybody else for that matter) had time to try test files attached to this report? I'm curious to know whether
or not people can reproduce with these files.

Crashes for me as well: opening all odt and sxw files on a fresh kubuntu install. This worked fine
on a regular Hoary install with kubuntu-desktop added on later.

This is happening with the same files that worked on my previous install, and on the same build of
OOo2 - it doesn't seem to be file specific, rather there seems to be something missing from a
kubuntu install that is causing OOo to freak out.

Just as an option to those desperate to get at their odt files (as I was) you can download the official rpms from http://openoffice.org and convert
them using alien. Then install the debs ( leave out the distro-specific menu debs ). /opt/openoffice*/program/soffice.bin will open all your
documents fine.

Works for me with latest openoffice2 builds. Please re-open if you still have problems.
