Bug Description

This morning I went to settings to check for OTA-9. It was there, so I asked to install it. It downloaded for a while (reporting absurd statistics like 4GB of 97284MB downloaded). Then it reported "Installation failed. Sorry, the system update failed."

I tried rebooting the phone to see if that might clear the problem. Now in Updates I see Ubuntu Version: 9 165.3MB. If I tap Download it immediately reports the same error.

This error message is vague. It should give some detail about what went wrong. It should also inform the user what state the phone is now in: if it's still at OTA 8.5 or if it's in a half-installed state.

I should point out that this is on an MX4. I tried again several hours later and it still doesn't work. Right now it just hangs on "Downloading" due to Bug #1522261 (also affected by Bug #1522248).

After a couple more tries and a reboot, it now has installed. It looks to me as if the download was truncated or corrupted somehow, so it refused to install the file it had downloaded - but it didn't delete the file and didn't attempt to validate it. Regardless, there's something badly wrong that it can get into that state.

Perhaps we can simulate the failure by toggling the network or corrupting the file intentionally
