Bug Description

I wanted to create wireless hotspot in Ubuntu 15.10 64bit and followed this official manual https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/net-wireless-adhoc.html. I followed every step but still wireless wasn't working. Nothing happened, my Android 4.4 phone couldn't find the wireless network.

Yes, it doesn't work for me either. Although my old iPod touch was able to connect to the wireless network, it just couldn't access internet. I tried a few variations, after searching around on internet and the community wiki, but couldn't make it work. My work was done on a 16.04 development LapTop.

I tried it all out in 16.04 (as far as I could) and it appeared to work. The only device I had to try to connect was my phone and that couldn't detect the SSID (even when I manually entered the details). I read an internet comment saying that some devices can't connect to this type of hotspot. If my laptop was broadcasting the SSID correctly then another device could have connected, so then I would have got as far as Doug got in his test. If a device can connect but can't share the internet connection then it's surely a software bug not a documentation bug? Does anyone know the package name? If I have the package name I can check the bugs database and if necessary file a new (software) bug.

I agree that this seems not to be a docs bug. No need to file a new bug report; it would be possible to just change the affected package of this one. However, in this case I think that seeking support is a proper next step.

@seba: If this hasn't been fixed for you yet, I'd advice you to ask for help at e.g. <http://askubuntu.com> or via the ubuntu-users mailing list (<https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users>).
