It seems like I got the zlib installed for both architectures. I was told by http://developer.sonymobile.com/knowledge-base/open-source/open-devices/aosp-build-instructions/how-to-build-aosp-marshmallow-for-unlocked-xperia-devices/ to install the 32-bit package as well.
