after the error I tried:

sudo apt-get install -- reinstall linux-image-4.3.0-7-generic
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-extra-4.3.0-7-generic
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-generic

and

sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-generic

linux-generic needed to be downloaded "again".

while installation a window popped up and told me a linux-image-4.3.0-7-generic error with error message "subprocess installed post-installation-script returned error exit status 2"

the other kernel modules errors popped up and told: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
