Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-writer

I'm running gutsy on amd64, just did the upgrade last night. However, now when I try to run Openoffice Writer (either from the menu or by double clicking a opendoc file) it displays the openoffice progress bar, and then just closes; I never get the Writer window.

Running from the commandline doesn't produce any output that helps debug what's happening. Any ideas would be welcomed, since I really need openoffice to work.

Just reinstalled openoffice.org-writer from a different mirror to see if that made a difference, and it doesn't. Also, oodraw, oocalc, oobase all exhibit the same behaviour. :(

i'm having the same problem.
running ooffice -writer from Terminal outputs the following:

X-Error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
        Major opcode: 53 (X_CreatePixmap)
        Resource ID: 0x4c00475
        Serial No: 5486 (5486)
These errors are reported asynchronously,
set environment variable SAL_SYNCHRONIZE to 1 to help debugging

i'm using Gutsy i386

i think this bug is caused by an incompatibility between openoffice (2.3, tested on it only) and a particular gtkrc file (maybe bad formed), since i've noticed that oo writer starts without any problem if i change the gtk theme - the X_CreatePixmap note gave me the idea.
here is attached the gtkrc file which makes the incompatibility issue.

i don't know how to make a gtk theme, so maybe someone expert in theming could be useful.

thank you.

same problem here with some gtk themes. if you don't want to change the gtk theme another solution is sudo apt-get remove openoffice2-gnome but oo wil be very ugly.
