Bug Description

lxsession-logout works only once. When I try to use it again dialog box does not appear. However two processes apear in the background:

darek@HOME:~$ ps aux | grep logout
darek 8794 0.0 0.0 4476 716 ? S 20:10 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/lxde-logout
darek 8795 0.0 0.5 194964 12260 ? Sl 20:10 0:00 lxsession-logout --banner /usr/share/lxde/images/logout-banner.png --side=top

after manually killing these 2 processes it starts to work again

Oops that failed. What I meant to say was:

I cannot reproduce this with the same versions. I've tried both using the logout function in the menu and using the lxsession-logout command. Perhaps you did not include all the steps to reproduce? If you can provide more information that could allow us to replicate the error, that would be great. Meanwhile, I'll mark this as incomplete. You can set it to new if you get more information. Thanks!

Walter, thank you for investigating. You will find detailed description below:

My system is not a fresh 15.10 install. Originally it was 12.04 install on which I installed self compiled xrdp according to instruction on http://scarygliders.net/ as original Ubuntu xrdp packet did not work. I use LXDE desktop for remote sessions. Everything worked fine, including lxsession-logout. Recently I made few upgrades in a row up to 15.10. And this is when lxsession-logout started to fail.

If more information is needed just let me know.

I have the same problem.
It was on Ubuntu 14.04, and now it also on 16.04.
I use manual package installation, maybe it's depends on some specific package?

There is a log of my installation (on Russian, but you can find there installed packages):
16.04: https://github.com/Avol-V/my-light-ubuntu/tree/5f1fed7e09b0d6f645203ae11c9de5cdaa4501a7
14.04: https://github.com/Avol-V/my-light-ubuntu/tree/ff30d6aa08bfc407f541b93822690cd7df6ec6f4

I have the same problem with this installation on two different computers.
In both situations I install pulseaudio instead of alsa and didn't install compton.

In my case this package works with the default graphic drivers, but not with the proprietary ones from nvidia. If you try to open the lxsession-logout, I see the application on the status bar but I won't open. If you open any other application in fullscreen and exit it, this application will launch just after exiting fullscreen mode. I am using lubuntu version 15.

I understand Daro is trying to help but I am having a bit of trouble with what he is reporting and might have seen two ways to interpret this which might be causing confusion and preventing this from being fixed. Misinterpreting bug reports is frustrating for the triagers as well.

1. can only get one lxsession-logout window open? Because I can open an lxsession logout window switch to another virtual workspace and then continue using everything but can't open up another lxsessoin logout instance then. The upstream gtk2 lxde has been adding these behind the scense as having two windows open like this would end up using more memory which is a problem on older hardware. I read through the changelog of lxsession and I get that it now requires a library for making unique applications. This I think might be close to the intended behavior as you are not supposed to be able to launch more than one as it would take much ram on a lot of the older systems and does running two logout dialgos serve any practical purpose other than just messing around. Making this not a singleton application would however make more ram hungry and if it caused the computers to swap and run slowly which is part of the reason lxde got developed.

2. Do you try to launch lxsession-logout once and say logout or switch user log back in again and then can't logout. If so that is a more serious problem. And would definetly be a bug that needs to be fixed.

On one of my computers I have nvidia videocard with proprietary driver, but on other (notebook) I have intel hd4000 intergated video with free driver. I have problem in both cases (I did not use compositing on any of this configurations).

When I run lxsession-logout it don't appear on the screen, but I can find it in processes. If I try to run several times, I can find several instances of lxsession-logout in task manager.
As temporary solution I run lxsession-logout in terminal emulator for immediatly terminate program with Ctrl+C, when it didn't appear, and try again. After several repeats it appears on the screen.

No, problem is still exists for me. With Ubuntu 16.04 and lxsession-logout 0.5.2-0ubuntu3 I had to repeat starting and killing several times to shutdown my notebook today.

Should I create new bug report, if this marked as fixed, that isn't true?
