Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I was told to report this by the update manager:

'E:The package cupsys needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.'

I tried to uninstall cups to get the other 113 updates that I need (running gutsy for two weeks now) and I discovered that it would uninstall the desktop as well - boo!

anyway, I'm getting a failing on the cupsys_1.3.2_ubuntu7.deb or something...I think it says "file name is missing"?

Please find term.log attached as requested.

Note that computer was powered down unexpectedly during an update - dog tripped over the extension cord.

It was after this that update stopped working. I'm pretty sure that happened about line number 1731.

Thanks for this additional information.

It seems like the cupsys package got corrupted. To workaround the issue you can run:
$ sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/cupsys.list /var/lib/dpkg/info/cupsys.list.broken
$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall cupsys

That should fix the problem. Please also attach the cupsys.list.broken file here just to verify that it is indeed this file that got corrupted.

Thanks,
 Michael

Michael, very much appreciate your help, and I apologise that I haven't replied sooner. Unfortunately it is a work computer and I only come in twice a week.

Updates are happening smoothly, please find file attached as requested.
