Bug Description
Binary package hint: dpkg
Since upgrading from fiesty to gutsy rc whenever I try do to do an upgrade I get the following
quote
E: dpkg was interrupted you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem
E: _cache -> open() failed, please report
W: Not using locking for read only file /var/lib/dpkg/lock
unquote
when I run dpkg --configure -a I see text saying processing trigger for libc6 then "bus crash" and the system is unusable because the hard disk is unavailable, the only way to recover the harddisk is to reboot.
But if I try to run dpkg I get the message "bus crash" and again the harddisk is unavailable
The only way I have found to run "dpkg --configure -a" as requested is to boot using my old 2.6.20-16 kernel using this kernel the dpkg command completes successfully and I am then able to reboot into the gutsy 2.6.22 kernel
As I couldn't work out what had failed in the upgrade, I carried out a clean re-installation which fixed the problem
