Bug Description

Ubuntu 15.10 hangs on shutdown with both generic and lowlatency kernels. In order to shutdown without forcing by pressing long on the laptop button, I need to restart, and then to shutdown, and then the shutdown takes more than a minute, which isn't the case with 14.04 which shutdowns in just few seconds. This happens with both fresh install and updated system.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.4 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

The issue started with installing of the 15.10 iso, as downloaded from the Ubuntu servers, I believe it's a version of 4. 2. 0. kernel. The last update that had the same problem was 4.2.0-21-lowlatency. Now I have installed the latest kernel, 4.4.0. as you suggested, and the problem is solved, thank you.

The only problem, that the Terminal report about during the installing of the new kernel, is this:

"W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/skl_guc_ver4.bin for module i915"

P.S. I'm sorry, but I can't add the suggested tag, it is not listed in the status list, so I added "fix-committed". If it is not correct one, please correct it. Thank you!
