Avant-window causes Gnome panel crash and a black part of the screen under itself (maybe because of the 3d settings)

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

under ubuntu ultimate 1.5, when running avant-window, it displays a black zone instead of the background under the avant window panel. I guess it is because of my 3d desktop settings. But when I try to stop avant-window by right-clicking on it, it displays the desktop backgroung settings message and I can't stop it otherwise than by rebooting the machine.
