Bug Description

This is similar to bug #1194153 , but the image is not deleted. I only notice this on old and new laptops in that the image is never displayed. The font colors do not work post 12.04 on any system I've set up.

Font colors only work when the image is displayed.

Run `sudo update-grub` to see wheter the image is found. If so, then the problem may be the image itself. Some images cannot be rendered on boot menu. But I don't know the exact condition.

The image is found, so I've got a feeling that it may be something to do with the resolution. When I have a moment, I'll play around with some images and see if I notice anything...

@Daniel Richter

I have been struggling with Grub Customizer for a while now but nothing I try works. I have tried editing the image in GIMP, changing the resolution, JPG and PNG format, different pictures but all to no avail. I have wasted hours and hours on this issue only to stumble upon this tread today.

I can understand when you say that some images don't work and you don't know what is causing it. But what I don't understand is why there is nothing pointing this out on Grub Customizer's main page? One itty bitty notice is all it would take to save hundreds, maybe thousands, of users from wasting so many hours.

Okay. After spending a lot of time on this issue I finally found the answer. I want to share.

The reason why certain images don't work is because they do not meet certain requirements. To find out what those requirements are and how to make an image conform please read this...

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Displays#Choosing_a_GRUB_2_Background_Image

There is also one additional requirement I discovered on my own, i.e. the path to the image must not have any spaces. For example, ~/Pictures/my image.png will not work. Instead, try ~/Pictures/my_image.png.
