intel-HDA cracking sound

Hello

I have an HP Compaqnx6310 computer running ubuntu 7.10 beta.

Every thing but the sound works fine. The sound is cracky and scratchy both with headphones and with the build in speakers.

The sound chip in my computer is Intel-HDA
