Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Some background first: I tried to do a distribution upgrade to Gutsy RC 1 and my machine froze. When I rebooted it reported that the primary partition (dev1) was corrupted. So I did a fresh reinstall from the CD, changed /etc/fstab to point /home to my second disc (sda1) and rebooted. I can see my home directory and everything looks good.

Next, I added thunderbird using synaptic and it used my existing profile to check several accounts (POP and IMAP). However, if I select a message in any account, thunderbird starts to render the message pane, then closes. I do not get any message windows. I will provide more information if you can tell me where this activity is logged.

I tried reinstalling Thunderbird using Synaptic and the problem goes away for a few minutes but then returns. If someone can post how to get the debug information (SylentBobNJ?) I will post it here.

Cheers.

I looked at the thunderbird error console and there were a lot of references to lightning so I uninstalled the plugin, restarted thunderbird and it seems to work. Reinstalled a fresh instance of the plugin as well as gcal handler and it still seems to be working.

I thought that about Lightning, too. I uninstalled and reinstalled without Lightning and it worked for a bit, but it's gone back to crashing even without Lightning..

Debug info can be grabbed by running Thunderbird from console with --debug switch. Type 'run' at the prompt and then make it crash, copy the output here, that's about it.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for reporting this bug. Is this still an issue for you? Which thunderbird version is/was affected? Do you have x86 or amd64?
