Some observations:
 - [Maintenance] The Debian packaging could certainly use some cleaning up / modernizing.
 - [Maintenance] It would be nice to see the patches being tagged, at least with a description.
 - [Maintenance] There are a few bugs open in Debian BTS, some with patches that could easily be applied (such as debian #711703)
 - [Security] Many binaries trigger a lintian warning: hardening-no-fortify-functions.

Seeing as the lintian warnings are about hardening, I think I'd like to see them fixed (or at least an analysis of why they can't be). I'd also like to know whether you plan to work with the Debian maintainers to fix other things (such as testing/applying patches already in the BTS which are relevant to Ubuntu).

I consider this main inclusion request blocked on getting further information about the two points above.

partial, old patches not retagged... yet

closed, it's been fixed upstream

 - [Security] Many binaries trigger a lintian warning: hardening-no-fortify-functions.

fixed. Furthermore, binaries were built without optimisation, nor debug symbols.... all fixed.

W.r.t. working together with debian. Collaboration happens via BTS and debian-s390 mailing list. Hendrik, dannf and myself are constantly in talks with phillip et.al.
