i got this packages from wily and rebuilt it for trusty

multipath-tools_0.5.0-7ubuntu7.1
sg3-utils_1.40-0ubuntu1

it resolved the problem.

so the problem is in the old multipath-tools package in trusty.

affects: linux-lts-vivid (Ubuntu) → multipath-tools (Ubuntu)

Did you modify the path selector yourself?

path_selector "service-time 0"

This requires loading the dm-service-time module.

i downloaded multipath-tools source package from http://packages.ubuntu.com/wily-updates/multipath-tools

and rebuilt it on trusty as described here http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/rebuilding-ubuntu-debian-linux-binary-package/

Thanks for the info, I ended up following https://opensourcehacker.com/2013/03/20/how-to-backport-packages-on-ubuntu-linux/

And I created a ppa with the backported lvm/multipath/sg3-utils toolchain at https://launchpad.net/~ace-staticwave/+archive/ubuntu/personal

ran in to this bug for trusty, for now using Gabriel Devenyi's PPA and it's working fine.

[seems like multipath v0.5.0 do not like wwid: "*" in blacklist section but that's for some other day :) ]
