verbiste applet incompatible with compiz

Binary package hint: verbiste-gnome

I run a daily updated Gutsy. I added the verbiste gnome applet but I cannot type into its field.

I deactivated compiz (returning to "none" in the visual effects preferences) and then I could type.

Reactivating compiz reproduces the bug.

Hi Hervé,

I have built the latest version from Debian unstable for gutsy in my personal package archive:

  deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fmarier/ubuntu gutsy main

Could you try it out to see if it solves your problem?

If it does, I will request that this version be synced in the next version of Ubuntu.

Unfortunately, I don't use Ubuntu anymore but Debian Testing.

This is currently version 0.1.19-2, and activating compiz from the command line does not reveal the bug.

Compiz itself is version 0.6.3~git20071222.061ff159-1.

I see you're the Debian maintainer of verbiste and you uploaded a new upstream version. I'm eager to backport and try it. Maybe we'll meet on the BTS!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Hervé. I have tested this again on Gutsy and I cannot reproduce the bug anymore with the version that's currently in gutsy. So I'll close this bug.

Feel free to feel a bug in Debian though if you notice anything unusual :)

Just to let you guys know, this was an oversight in compiz. It very strictly would never let your panels get focus, this was relaxed to fix such applets. No need to fix anything in your applet. :)
