Marius Gripsgard , thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

It appears you have installed a 3rd party version of the nvidia drivers, and are using a non-default kernel parameter. Hence, is this still reproducible if you:
* Keep everything as is, and just remove the non-default kernel parameter nomodeset.
* Fully uninstall the 3rd party nvidia drivers, and use nouveau.
* Install a supported version of the nvidia drivers as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia .
