Hello,

I can't reproduce this. Are you running any experimental packages? Are you=
=20
using any special XMMS plug-ins? The Nvidia closed-source drivers? Try=20
disabling all special plug-ins, visualizations, etc.

Thanks,
Christopher Martin

Yep, I saw this too... finally discovered that it was because I still had
wmxmms running.

This sort of method *should* reproduce the problem:

1) install 1.2.10-2
2) install wmxmms
3) run xmms, and wmxmms.
4) quit xmms (leave wmxmms running)
5) upgrade to 1.2.10+cvs20050209-2
6) run xmms - should segfault
7) quit wmxmms
8) run xmms - should run fine
9) run wmxmms.

Any further quits/runs of xmms will be fine. I haven't investigated this any
further than getting it going again, but to me it looks like wmxmms has the
control socket open when xmms starts - something about the previous version
having been running with the current wmxmms causes it to bomb.

Mike.

Thanks very much for this information. I'm CCing this to restarting wmxmms=
=20
resolves the issue.

Meanwhile, I'll take the tentative liberty of downgrading the bug to=20
important, since if the problem is a "one-timer" then it really isn't=20
release critical.

Christopher Martin

Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.10+cvs20050209-2

All right. Today, I can no longer reproduce the segfault.

The other day I must have had the wmxmms (from the previous package
version) running while I installed and started the new xmms version. I'm
now running both wmxmms and xmms comming from the same package and I don't
see the segfault.

Maybe a warning (about killing a running wmxmms) when installing a new
xmms package wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Nevertheless, I did notice this:

,----
| Getting status for xmms...
| Verifying package integrity...
| There may be a problem with your installation of xmms;
| the following files appear to be missing or changed:
|
| Do you still want to file a report [y|N|q|?]?
`----

comming out of 'reportbug'. There might be something odd with either
reportbug or the files in the xmms package.

You may want to downgrade the bug to 'normal'.

Cheers,
Cristian

Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.10+cvs20050209-2

Hi

This might be a general problem with applications remotely
controlling xmms. After upgrading, I quit xmms and started the
new version. I experienced almost similar problems as in #304098:

| The playlist just quickly cycles through like it would do if I
| tried to play the files on an unmounted nfs mount but nothing plays
| except for a note or two.

Xmms just skipped all files in the playlist and only played the
last one (local and over NFS). The skin was reset to the default
one every time a song changed or was skipped. On exit, it crashed
with a segmentation fault. After restarting the (still running)
instance of wmalbum[1], the problems were completely gone.

The bug #304098 _might_ also be related to this problem since the
whole conversation took place on the same day, where he might had
such an application running in the background (just a guess).

Subject: Same behaviour for xmms-kde

Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.10+cvs20050209-2
Followup-For: Bug #303998

Hi,

I experienced the same problem for xmms-kde (I am running a selfcompiled
one). Xmms was off when I upgraded to recent testing version. When I
tried to start xmms (either from xmms-kde or from a console) it
segfaulted.
As reported earlier for wmxmms, restarting xmms-kde fixed the segfault
and since then I have no problems anymore.

Cheers,
Marcel
