Bug Description

Dear all,

I just found this problem that the columns (Name, Size, Type, Modified) don't resize if I change from full screen view into split pane view. Thus, I cannot see all columns properly.

I gave my best to illustrate the problem in the attached screencast.

I'm using nautilus on Ubuntu 15.10.

Please let me know if I can provide you with more information.

Thankfully,

Robert

Unsure how what you suggest would work, resizing the columns to fit on screen would mean they would be not wide enough for their content which would probably not be a better experience (the names would be truncated after a few chars for example). The current behaviour give spaces to the names which is often the most useful information, and you can scroll to see the other ones

Dear Sebastien,

Thank you for your response.

I wasn't aware of the technical limitations.

Would you suggest that the best option is to just make the columns smaller to have them then fit the window if split vertically?

Warmly,

~ Robert

well, the limitations are not really "technical", it's rather geometry, in a 1cm width column you can only fit so many chars...

Dear Sebastien,

I think you've brought me so far that I find my own request invaild. :)

Should we close it here?

Ok, thanks for the discussion still, sometime it's useful to question things even if the conclusion is that the current way is actually what makes sense, let's do that then and close the bug ;-)
