Bug Description
I've helped a user on #ubuntu+1 for this. He upgraded from Feisty Fawn 7.04 to 7.10 using "update-manager -d"
He had this error, while upgrading the kernel:
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.
/usr/bin/getopt comes from the package util-linux and he didn't have that installed. I told him to install util-linux and the
Shouldn't the initrams-tools be depending on util-linux for getopt?

hello
initramfs-tools depends on util-linux for getopt.
surely, you had not util linux installed because at this time, you have problems between util-linux and linux32.
So you must remove linux32 and wait ;)
If you cant remove linux32, try sudo dpkg -P initramfs-tools
that will say that you can't remove initramfs-tools because you have many dependancies .
but after doing this you access to synaptic and you can remove linux32 ...
