Bug Description

After upgrading my HP EliteBook 8470p to 15.10 it started freezing within 12 hours of booting and the screen started flickering when X did fade-out and fade-ins.

Booting the HP with the 15.04 kernel (3.19.0-31) makes it stable again.

+1 on a ThinkPad T430s with Intel graphics.

Mostly random freezes and random crashes of Xorg. First I thought it was a problem introduced with upgrading (14.10 -> 15.04 -> 15.10), so I performed a clean install, to no avail. Have been reluctant to downgrade so far.

(Interestingly, I just now managed to crash the X server three times in a row by clicking on the 'Edit' button in the 'Shutter' screenshot application. Don't know if that is technically related.)

When I mentioned it on the [forums][1], there was one other user who had a similar problem, so that makes us 3.

janl, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

With just the HP laptop (not the SONY), could you please run the following command once from a terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:
apport-collect -p xorg 1515551

Please ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

When reporting xorg related bugs in the future, please do so via the above method. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
