Bug Description

Issues in 16.04, shortlist

Fails to open due to skin .png's which need to be png24, see -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mplayer/+bug/1218510

Defaults to a vo of vdpau so will fail to display video for most users in most cases

Defaults to optical device of /dev/dvd which no longer exists (for some time now

Defaults audio to pulse with application volume set to 0 so no sound

No menus so only can be used from context menu or file association

Get rid of or fix.

I tested in a live session made from Lubuntu xenial-desktop-i386.iso

mplayer2 works and gnome-mplayer works.

I cannot install mplayer-gui. What program source must be activated (repo, ppa)?

MPlayer is currently in proposed, however i386 failed to build. As far mplayer-gui it's not been touched since I believe utopic

mplayer-gui can be fixed by reuploading mplayer-skins, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mplayer/+bug/1218510

Therefore, no need to delete it.
