Bug Description

adobe reader 8 came through my gutsy updates today, it is nice.

However, it replaces my nice and sharp gnome icons for the pdf mimetype. Please revert this. It breaks icon themes. I don't want adobe messing with them!

whoops, discovered this is a medibuntu-provided package, so I guess it has nothing to do with ubuntu per se.

acroread (8.1.1-0medibuntu2) gutsy; urgency=low

  * debian/rules, debian/acroread-common.links: do not install mimetypes icons
    anymore. (LP: #151463)
  * debian/acroread*.{install,links}, debian/lintian-acroread*, debian/rules:
install to @LIB@, and replace during the build with usr/lib (for i386) or
usr/lib32 (for amd64), so that installation dirs are correct for amd64
systems. Thanks to the Automatix Team for being aware of this issue and
*NOT* having reported a bug for it... you're so useful!

that was very quick, many thanks! :)

by the way, is there a possibility to "fix it upstream" (that means adobe I guess)? or is it really an ubuntu issue?

Lionel Le Folgoc (mrpouit) wrote :

Both : Adobe Reader uses a custom installer which adds these mimetypes icons, and I reproduced it (sort of) with some symlinks in the package (but I don't think it's worth reporting to Adobe).

oh, I thought with Reader 8 they provided debian packages. Anyway, thanks again :)

They do, but I don't use it, since the deb provided on their website installs acroread to /opt, which is wrong (the package manager should not use this directory nor /usr/local, it's reserved for the sys admin).

Yep, this is still valid for acroread-9.2-1karmic1 from ubuntu-partner. And it still installs into /opt/Adobe/Reader9...

Hi, a new acroread release (0.9.4) is available for update, could you give it a try and tell us if the problem persists?
If you still have this bug please set back the status to "new"
thanks
