Bug Description

I use uRadio a lot. At home I use it with WiFi and it works fine. While travelling (driving in the car, being out for a run) it also works fine for some time. But sooner or later it stops playing.

Maybe the reason for it is that the mobile network is changing cells and the transition does not work as flawlessly as uRadio would expect it and therefore the connection is broken. But uRadio does not reconnect automatically. I finally have to restart the app. A stop & restart of the radio station in uRadio does not help and also switching to another radio station does not help either.

The phone signal strength is still ok when the phone stops playing this is why I think it has something to do with the transition between mobile cells. I could repeat this issue when I was driving into a tunnel.

Any idea?

I have also tested this with oxygen radio (another web-radio app) and this app seems to have the same issue.

Ruben,

just an idea:

I have this issue eventhough I have phone reception. BUT: this is general reception. At least I have 2G (normal GSM) reception. But to listen to the radio I need 3D since I am using 128 bit stations.

Could this be a possible root cause that there needs to be a trigger to reconnect to a stronger signal than 2G?

Hi Uranicus,

At the moment I dropped to QtMultimedia 5.2 version and it works. No reconnects, but it works.

Tomorrow I will upload the new version and tell me if it works well.

Thanks and regards.

I added a stop before play and now it works. Not as it should but at least it works.

I have tested it with the current version of uRadio (1.2.6).

First under OTA-7 I have not seen much difference to the reported bug above. Connection losses and I was not able to reconnect with "Stop", "Start". So I though, lets wait for OTA-8, maybe this will change something.

Today I drove my "test track" with tunnel. Except the start (see below) I had NO interruptions of the music. Even within the tunnel it did work fine. There was not too much traffic and therefore the 3G network was probably also not that much busy but as I wrote, no interruption. I thought: great, update + OTA-8 did the trick!!

But this afternoon I drove (same route) back again with only a few traffic and I had several interruptions of the music stream and to reconnect I had to restart uRadio.

At least for me this does not really make sense...

This morning, when I started my trip I had a strange experience, also this not really explainable for me. I wanted to start uRadio to listen to music in my car (via bluetooth, as I always do). While I was still connected with my WiFi and driving away I did not get any music out. So I restarted the music stream (with "Stop", "Start") and expected that after I have left my home and lost my WiFi connection I will get the data via 3G. But nothing happened. I tried it again and also restarted uRadio.
Finally uRadio was freezing and my complete phone got stuck. I had to reset the phone and restart uRadio. From that moment on I had an uninterrupted flow of music (see above).
