Bug Description

Hi, I'm using Ubuntu 15.10. When I try to open the store, browser or settings a window is poped up with the tiny loading icon and then it closes unexpectedly.
I'm not using a LXC container. Just installed the unity8-desktop-session-mir package.

unity-system-compositor --version

0.2.0

Mir version: 0.17.0+15.10.20151008.2-0ubuntu1

Thank you for your bug report. could you copy the output of "sudo systemctl start cgmanager" here? also could you add your ~/.cache/upstart/unity8-dash.log to the bug?

"sudo systemctl start cgmanager" gives nothing.
Maybe I should mention I'm not using a LXC container. Just installed the unity8-desktop-session-mir package because I recived the message: "unable to start lxc container" but this is for another bug.

Stephen M. Webb (bregma) wrote :

If typing the command 'service cgmanager status | grep -i active' in the terminal does not who a line containing "active (running)" then this problem is caused by the control group manager not being installed or configured correctly. That manager is used by upstart to run apps in a confined space (yes, even on the desktop). There is a known problem in which this software is not being installed or configured correctly.

If this problem is occurring for you, please issue the above command and check the output.

Is this a duplicate of bug 1535058 or vice versa?

@bregma I reinstalled Ubuntu so I needed to install unity8 to test the command. As a result I am not able to reproduce the bug anymore.
Anyway, the status now is: active (running).

@vanvugt I do not know. The most complete and well described wins.

Hi!!

I am experiencing the bug. When I run 'service cgmanager status | grep -i active' I got this:

Active: inactive (dead)

What can I check and fix to get the apps running?

I am using 16.04 and unity8 session (not the lxd)

Please try one of the workarounds mentioned in bug 1535058 like:
   sudo apt-get install libpam-cgfs
