Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Well, it's all in the subject. When I hit "lock screen" or my screensaver activates and wants to lock the screen, X crashes and after a few seconds I get a new gdm login prompt.

This is on an HP Compaq nc6320 in a docking station with an external HP1740 17" screen. I guess the issue might be related to the dual-screen setup.
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

I don't think I'm the only one with this problem, check http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=60671 , but I couldn't find an existing bug report for the issue.

I also experience this crash. This was after i updated the kernel to 2.6.22-14-generic from 2.6.22.13-generic. I upgraded yesterday ( 10/09/2007 )at around 9:00AM - everything still worked. This morning (10/10/2007) around 10AM i upgraded again. This broke the screensaver. My .xsession-error look similar to the one already posted. I am using an ATI X700 with binary fgrlx driver.

Thanks in advance.

I am also seeing this crash. I am using a Dell Latitude D610 laptop on a docking station with a 17" Dell M770 CRT Monitor. I have a onboard Intel 910 video card and using the 910 driver (not the default settings, the only way I found to get multiple monitors working). I have dual monitors/xinerama setup. I'm able to preview the screen saver fine, but when I attempt to lock the screen with GLMatrix, X restarts. If I choose a blank screen saver the screen locks fine. This problem may have to do with OpenGL and xinerama. This worked fine with Edgy, this problem started today when I installed Gutsy RC (fully updated).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
