Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

When using multiple tabs and multiple browser windows, there is no way (that I am aware of) to find out which tab causes the "Unresponsive script" dialog to appear. How can I decide whether to "stop or go" when I don't know which page contains the offending script?

You can find a screen shot e.g. at http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8559601/Warning%3A%20Unresponsive%20script.png so I'm not attaching another one.

To my uneducated self, it would seem like a good fix if the dialog's title and/or the description could contain the URL of the page containing the problematic JavaScript. (Still, with 16 browser windows and an estimated total of 200 tabs, a challenge to find it.)

This seems to me like a subset of #78089

Looks like https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78089 would be the proper upstream tracker for this, although https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=397394 is certainly more focused on this particular aspect of the problem. See also https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=257646

Actually, bug 78089 seems to have gone off on a tangent. This seems to be wfm on Firefox 3.0 and above.

you mean 78089 is wfm not this bug, right? yes, the dialog wording has since changed, but it's only partly fixed because the tab is still not identified (this bug), as timeless suggests in bug 78089 comment 0.

identify the offending URL is surely a pain with lots of tabs, say 200+.

Could you please identify the offending page?

We run Firefox 12.0 on CentOS 5.8 (64-bit). 8 tabs are open in Firefox in our NOC display (a large wall-mounted TV) and we're using "Tab Slideshow" plugin to cycle between them.

I just came in to find an "Unresponsive script" warning and the error text says that a script "in this page" became unresponsive. Meantime Tab Slideshow keeps cycling between tabs so I have no idea which page faulted. The error message does not give enough information.

Could you please display either the tab number or the URL?

Thanks for a great product!

Aleksey
