Bug Description

On attempting to add a Telegram account to the instant messaging, I receive the following error message:

"This IM Account cannot be created - a Telepathy Connection Manager named 'morse' is missing or it cannot handle protocol 'telegram'. Please try installing morse with your package manage."

After attempting sudo apt-get install morse, there is no change in this behaviour. Best-case scenario I can see is that the message is indicating the wrong package to install and I need to install something else instead, in which case message needs to be fixed.

Reproducible: always

Steps to reproduce:
1. Click on instant messaging icon in panel
2. Click "Configure Now..." button
3. Click the "Create" button.
4. Select "Telegram" from list.

Actual behaviour:
Error message suggesting installing morse is displayed, regardless of whether or not morse is installed.

Expected behaviour:
Some interface for configuring Telegram connection is presented.

Also having this problem.

I looked it up and allegedly this package has morse/telegram related files:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/wily/amd64/kde-config-telepathy-accounts/filelist

however it must rely on another library because I already have this installed.

What you probably want is this:

https://github.com/TelepathyQt/telepathy-morse

which in turn requires this:

https://github.com/Kaffeine/telegram-qt

After a quick browse through some PPAs I can't find this package readily available yet.

I can make one for wily with checkinstall but that won't be a proper package with proper deps.

Clive Johnston (clivejo) wrote :

Hi,

I have packaged telepathy-morse for xenial, yakkety and zesty. It is in my PPA - https://launchpad.net/~clivejo/+archive/ubuntu/telepathy-morse

I would appreciate anyone who is wanting to test this feature to install it and try it out.

A couple of issues I have noticed are:

- You need to give the full international telephone number.
- You need to go Offline and then Online a few times in Telepathy for it to actually send you the
code and be able to log into your account.

Any issues with this code can be reported upstream at the following URL:

https://github.com/TelepathyIM/telepathy-morse

Thank you Clive! I have tested your PPA package for telepathy-morse in both 16.04 and in Zesty. I can confirm that the entire international number must be entered, and that it is necessary to go off and online a few times to get it working.

However, once the link is made, it works!

Please upload this package to the archive if possible. It makes ktp worth using again.
